The film depicts a parallel universe where power grids have collapsed and organic life begins to transform. There's a thematic relationship between electricity and organic matter.
The instrumentation we use to convey this includes string quartet, guitars, double bass, human voices and a lap harp alongside experimental musical sound design techniques. Performed live, these recordings instantly feel human and organic. We also encouraged the string players to bounce their bows off the violin strings to create ricochet sounds, as well as recording group portamentos.
We used guitar pedals such as the Particle by Red Panda and retro effects racks, such as the Eventide H3000 SE which feel warm and tactile.
We used an EBow on stringed instruments, such as guitar and lap harp, creating unpredictable harmonic distortions and drones.
We also recorded a huge modular rig. By playing with different parameters and routings, unexpected and strange sounds started to occur.
